Library: Introduction to Amity High School Library Resources for Teachers

Professional Learning Community Introduction to Library Resources

Information literacy topics:

  • Determining best sources

  • Searching strategies for information

  • Using technology tools

Objective: To be able to locate information resources through Amity’s Library, and to apply effective searching strategies using the technology tools.

The goal of this activity is to solve the information challenges outlined below, so that you can see and use some of the information resources we have available. As you work, you will access your instructions from a Google survey, submitting your answers in the same survey.

You may work alone at your own computer, or in pairs.

Step 1:

  1. Go to the library website.  If you can’t use the link, follow this path:

Amity website→High SchoolAHS Library Information Center

  1. Open a second browser window or tab to access these instructions (if you are reading this, you are already here):

Amity website→High SchoolAHS Library Information Center→Teacher Links→Technology Resources for Teachers→Technology Instruction for Teachers→TopicIntroduction to Library Resources for Teachers

Step 2:

Read these instructions:

  • All your searches will begin from the Amity School Library Information Center website.

  • The most effective strategy to address your searches will be to look FIRST at the main menu and the left sidebar of the library page. Always make that your first step, then move on from there.

  • You will be given 2 minutes for each challenge.  When you find the answer, write it in the answer box of the Google survey, and SUBMIT.  At the end of 2 minutes time will be called, and the answer will be given along with a few hints about that resource.

  • We recommend that you always leave one tab of your browser with the library website open, so you don’t lose your way. Remember, if you click on a link and it does not open in a new tab, you can choose “open in new tab” by RIGHT-clicking on the link.

Step 3:

Wait until you we are all ready to do this step.

When the START of the activity is called, go to this Google form and begin.
